Intermittent fasting is an eating pattern in which you abstain from food for certain periods of time, often either 12–16 hours each day or 24 hours once or twice per week. Fasting results in lower blood sugar and insulin levels. While fasting seems easy to do, there are proper ways to start, track and encourage your body to accept fasting as a way of life.
Physiologic ketosis is a normal response to low glucose availability, such as low-carbohydrate intake or fasting, that provides an additional energy source for the brain in the form of ketones. In addition to helping you burn fat, ketosis can make you feel less hungry. It also helps you keep muscle. For healthy people who don’t have diabetes and aren’t pregnant, ketosis usually kicks in after 1 or 2 days of eating fewer than 50 grams of carbohydrates.
Insulin resistance (IR) is a pathological condition in which cells fail to respond normally to the hormone insulin. Insulin is a hormone that allows glucose to enter cells which also reduces blood glucose (blood sugar). Insulin is released by the pancreas in response to carbohydrates consumed in the diet. The goal is to reduce your dependence on sugar and reduce Insulin Resistance.
